The Reason

Welcome to the first installment of our Envision Nepal Video Blog!

Kristi and I have struggled for years to find effective ways to show our ministry partners what our lives and ministry in Nepal are really like.  We want to make the most of every opportunity and strategy that is available to bridge the geographic and cultural gap and help you "Envision Nepal" through our eyes.  Of course, the ideal way to do that would be to put all of you on a plane and bring you over to see it in person!  But since that is logistically impossible, we thought we would try the next best thing and bring Nepal to you through this video blog.

This first installment is a video clip that we took at the Boudhanath stupa on the northeastern side of Kathmandu.  The Boudha stupa is one of the holiest sites in all of Southern Asia for Tibetan Buddhists.  As such, it serves as a great illustration of the reason why we are in Nepal.  We are here to reach those who are lost.  We want to bring the Light of the world to those who have only known darkness.  While we praise God for the way in which churches are growing and spreading among the Hindu population in Nepal, we also recognize that those from a Tibetan Buddhist background have largely been excluded from this growth.  Why?  Perhaps because they are culturally different from their Hindu-background near-neighbors.  In some cases, there are language barriers, as they speak Tibetan rather than the more common Nepali language.  And in most cases, geography is a major limiting factor in the spread of the Gospel, as most Tibetan Buddhist-background people groups live in remote mountainous villages that are often only accessible by walking.

In spite of these challenges, we remain committed to the task of bringing the Gospel to the unreached, and least-reached peoples of Nepal.  The Tibetan-Buddhist studies course that we mention in the video is just one more strategy that we are employing in order to accomplish this enormous task.  Rae (our M. Associate) and I have learned so much in the past month through this class, and we can't wait to put that knowledge to effective use as we reach out to Tibetan-Buddhists in various remote areas of north central and northwest Nepal.
